Exploring Pittsburgh: Downtown

My group and I visited downtown as our neighborhood for the Exploring Pittsburgh project. We had all been there before, and this was my second time. We took the 61C to get there knowing that any of the 61 or 71 Port Authority buses would get us where we needed to be. We disembarked at 6th street and Wood and walked toward our first destination, Point State Park. The sun had just set when we arrived on Sunday, so the sky was still lit and colorful. There were many children and cute dogs amidst the other tourists (or locals) and there was a great view of the fountain as well as the cityscape.

We then walked to Market Square for dinner. We hit up Noodles and Company (where I had some quality mac and cheese) with less than an hour until close, since apparently everything closes early on Sunday. When we finished, it was dark out. There was not much to do and very few people were out and about. We decided to return to Point Park for some pictures of the city at night. After that, we went back home using the bus stop across from the PNC grass mural, a landmark that my friends had previously told me to look for in order to return to Oakland.

I would not recommend visiting downtown on a Sunday night since there is not much to do. From my experience, the place is more abuzz with people and activities during the day. In the future, I’d spend more time there, perhaps in the daytime with a bigger plan of what I want to do, but downtown at sunset was very beautiful and I'm glad we went when we did.
